“Works Great”

I needed to make up a special fitting for an A/C system. Needed the line with inlet and outlet fitting plus a charge port in the tube.

To start, I was sure to take all the pieces and do the clean up first. Every joint was brushed using the stainless steel brush (included in the braze kit) before putting everything together. Also note that the stainless steel cleanup went INSIDE the fitting too so that I could apply the paste flux and get the wire rod to flow down inside the joint.

Picture 3 is the finished flux joint. Pretty easy straight forward joint but I have to admit, the fact that the paste flux changes color as you’re brazing make it easy to know when to apply the alloy filler metal. The white paste flux went crusty white as soon as I applied heat; then it turned dark gray; and finally flux turns clear to indicate that it’s at the right temperature to apply the filler.

The alloy filler metal runs as smooth as soft solder on copper that makes the repair really easy. Best part is that the flux comes off fast. Just a simple cold water rinse got rid of everything.

For me, the big issue is that this works exactly as the manufacturer says. Just do your clean up with the stainless steel brush supplied; apply the flux; heat and add alloy when the flux goes clear. It’s easier than any other aluminum repair I’ve tried!
